About Portalupi Wine
Our Story
Portalupi Wine was born in 2002 from the vision of Tim Borges and Jane Portalupi, a husband and wife team united by a shared love of the Cal-Ital lifestyle. Tim brought over 40 years of winemaking experience across Napa and Sonoma County, while Jane brought her background in fashion retail marketing to give Portalupi its distinctive sense of style and community. Together, they built something rare: a winery that felt like an invitation, where food, wine, and good company were always at the center.
After more than two decades of award-winning wines, Tim and Jane passed the torch to Ryan and Katie Kunde. A 5th generation Kunde raised in Sonoma County, Ryan studied viticulture and enology at UC Davis and co-founded DRNK Wines in Sebastopol alongside Katie — crafting Portalupi's very first vintage in what is now the DRNK wine cave. When the opportunity to carry Portalupi forward arose, the fit was natural: a shared respect for tradition, a passion for community, and a belief that great wine is best enjoyed with the people you love.
The Cal-Ital spirit lives on — and we couldn't be more honored to carry it forward.
