Terroir is how a particular region’s climate, soils and aspect (terrain) affect the taste of wine. Some regions are said to have more ‘terroir’ than others.
What is ‘terroir’ and how does it affect the taste of wine?
‘Terroir’ is one of the most used and least understood wine words. Originally it was associated with earthy notes in many Old World wines. We feel Sonoma has the most amazing terroir and is the secret ingredient to our wine. Think of terroir as a sense of place and understand no two vineyard plots could ever be the same.
Spring Rock Vineyard
Founded in 1999, Spring Rock Vineyard represents the culmination of Sonoma’s greatest team. Vineyard Manager Jessica Ruben partnered with the James family to plant heritage rootstock for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Nestled on the Sonoma Coast, this vineyard benefits from the cool winds blowing off the ocean and with it a dense fog and mist. The vineyard is farmed 100% organically and handpicked during harvest at 2 am to preserve acidity.
