Our Barbera grapes come from one of the most highly sought-after vineyards in California. Shake Ridge Ranch is in the Sierra Foothills along a ridge 1,650–1,810 feet above sea level. Renowned grower, Ann Kraemer is one of the most highly respected figures in the wine world. In short order, this vineyard has proven to be a true star. The Ranch is on very steep undulating hills a few miles east from Sutter Creek, in Amador County, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Shake Ridge features some 42 acres of wine grapes in numerous blocks, each of which has its own unique combination of slope, exposure, aspect and soil mix. Soils at the property consist of well-drained loams on a base that ranges from quartz and soapstone to shale and, here and there, a bit of granite.
Enjoy an explosive nose that finishes soft. A multi-faceted wine made in the Old World Alba style Barbera with ever changing layers and flavors of boysenberry, licorice, big fruit, black mission fig. Finely tuned with supporting wood tones. A True Treasure. Enjoy now with decanting or age 2-5 years.
