Old Vine Zinfandel 2021

2021 Old Vine Zinfandel

Our purest vintage ever-great balance and concentration, capturing the essence of the ancient vines. Dolinsek Ranch, a magical vineyard planted originally in 1910 by the Frati family, has produced outstanding wines throughout this century. The soil is a rich sandy-Gold Ridge loam and is located just off the famous Laguna Road in Russian River Valley. Jim Dolinsek, owner and grower, had the chance to purchase the property 19 years ago and since then, has meticulously cared for each and every vine with a passion. The cooler climate zone of the Russian River Valley affords the grapes to hang longer on the vine, ripen slowly resulting in richer flavors and ample acidity. Once again a superstar Zinfandel.

Hugely ripe and fat with raspberry, liqueur like aromatics, tempered with just the right amount of toasted new American oak. The true Russian River Zinfandel has flavors of raspberry preserves, blackberry and a strong line of cracked green pepper, ripe olives and nutmeg, allspice. Not merely a wine that is to taste, but a wine that is truly an “Experience” unto itself. Screaming for “fall-off-the-bone” slow smoked baby back ribs. Perfect to go with decanting or age up to 8-10 years.

2021 Harvest: 2021 water tables in California were loser and with dry farming there were less clusters per vine, less berries per cluster, smaller berries making for higher skin to juice ration resulting in a darker pigment and higher flavor intensity. That is the silver lining for the 2021 harvest.
