Our grapes come from a multi generation Italian grower from Mendocino County since 1918 who is one of the few growers of Nebbiolo in the state. Enjoy now with decanting or age up to 10 years. Nebbiolo is known as the KING of Piemonte’s grapes and one that people travel all over the world to purchase. The Graziano family is one of the oldest grape growing families in Mendocino County. The soils are a unique white Pinole clay loam soils. The vineyard is located in the heart of a 100 acre property and in the center of the Calpella District. This vineyard was last planted 65-70 years ago by Greg’s grandfather Vincenzo, his uncle August Solomon and father Joseph Graziano. The closer spacing will create more tonnage and better grapes because of the competition between the vines.
Portalupi’s 2022 Vintage on the nose has unique red berries and rose petal aromas. Once on the palette you are taken back with the bold tannins, balanced acidity and the distinctive flavor of hand crafted leather, roses, floral, red rose, strawberry. Gets slightly “truffley” towards the end, makes you want a nice grilled grass fed lamb or polenta with mushrooms. Decant or age up to 8-10 years.
2022 Harvest: The 2022 harvest was lighter than in the past few years We had a heat spike in September followed by a rain that affected some vineyards. The ongoing drought meant smaller berry and cluster size but the quality was stellar. Overall, higher summer temperatures ripened the fruit for an earlier harvest with an even ripening and great PH to acid balance
