2023 Sangiovese Grosso

Gold Medal, Press Democrat.

Known as Brunello in Italy when made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes. Sangiovese Grosso, the larger-berried clone of Sangiovese thrives in select microclimates of Sonoma Valley. The Sangiovese Grosso grape responds exceptionally well to the region’s terroir, producing wines with a balance of richness, structure, and bright acidity. Made in the true Italian style, making this vintage a great food wine..

The soils are Volcanic and Alluvial that are well-draining  which results in deep root penetration, for concentrated flavors and strong tannins. Flavors of red cherry, wild blackberry, and dried cranberry, with hints of pomegranate. Subtle tobacco, sweet earth, dried herbs including sage complemented by oak-driven elements like cinnamon, cedar, and caramel.

This wine will develop beautifully over time, gaining tertiary notes of leather, dried flowers, and balsamic richness. Decant or age 4-6 years.
