An exquisite expression of Barbera with a sexy blush color and traditional method champenoise.
Double Gold San Francisco Chronicle
TASTING NOTES
Portalupi is always on the cutting edge of Barbera with a goal of being the premiere Barbera producer in America. We believe the Barbera grape has the perfect acidity and flavor profile to make a traditional and elegant Methode Champenoise and in short order, we have achieved our vision. An absolutely exquisite expression of a blush wine in color, aromatics and flavors. An absolute industry first in regards to style, elegance and sophistication.
Great strawberry aromas, many and tight small bubbles and a heady creamy mousse.
VINEYARD NOTES
Located close to Ukiah, bordering the Redwood Valley AVA, where the Russian River flows the length of the Ukiah Valley and has been its defining landmark for eons. The fertile floodplain of this storied waterway is flanked by miles of benchland, pinole soils. The two topographies create a superb growing region reminiscent of the Medoc.
The Pauli family is a multi generation farmer.
WINEMAKER NOTES
Harvested at 22.1 Brix, the grapes go directly into press, whole cluster and are gently squeezed allowing the juice to have a brief contact with the grape skins, giving the wine a brilliant rose blush hue. The wine after fermentation is then bottled and the riddling process begins. For nearly a year the wine is carefully monitored until we feel all aspects are perfect. This wine is then dosage and after a little rest in the bottle released.
We love making fresh strawberry gelato with Arrossire di Barbera for a “Champagne” Floatie!
